Functions:

Pre-Service Teacher Education (PSTE) Branch :-

Branches of DIET are connected with one another and they are complimentary and supplementary too. Moreover, there is a continuous process in functions of these branches.

This PSTE Brand is a laboratory of the DIET.

(1) To provide services as a Central Branch : The teacher-educators of this brand should be well acquainted with right from admissions of pre-service teachers to their training, evaluation and examination etc. They are required to study curriculum of this brand and subject contents.

(2) To prepare research and curriculum material.

(3) Teaching activity concerning science.

(4) To give an idea to primary teachers regarding in-service training programme and non-formal education programme.

(5) To give information regarding activities of other branches of the DIET.

(a) In-service training programme for primary education.

(b) Training programmes for employees of non-formal education and adult education.

(c) To develop locally useful syllabus, TLMs low cost teaching aids, Educational Technology and   Evaluation Examination Tools.

(d) Information regarding Field Interaction.

(e) Research work for children of needy group and talented students for their improvement in education.   

(6) Maintenance of TLMs To maintain TLM and TLM classes (rooms) for science laboratory, tools for psychology, art education, sports and games and those for weaker children.

(7) Co-Curricular Activities To encourage co-curricular activities like debates elocution competition, literature, science fairs, dramatic art, sports and games, yogas and various hobbies, as a part of curriculum.

 

Work Experience (WE) Branch :-

Physical work is also essential alongwith mental activities in the all-round development of children.  Experience achieved while doing work becomes very interesting.

Functions of the Branch 

  1. Selection of fields and to develop work experience activities corresponding to them.
  2. This work is to be performed for teachers of primary education, non-formal education, adult education centres, pre-service teachers.
  1. Inter-relationship between sections : Activities are to be developed keeping children in centre. Thus work of this section is co-ordinated with those of all the sections.
  1. Care of Institutional Works : Area of work experience activities, social activities (including national-social festivals), manual skills, village, school and family, all are included. This section has to do the work of care-taking and nurturing of cleanliness and decoration of the institute and care-taking and nurturing of roads gardens. This work is to be extended from the institute to village.
  1. Activities 

    5(1)   Activities based on material available in the School : To prepare covers and flash-cards from newspapers and waste paper, pictures and charts. To nurture gardens, to grow flowering plants and trees, activities like school decoration etc.

    5(2)   Activities based on materials available from the local environment, toys from clay, making broom from palm-leaves, asanas, toys, kites, incense sticks, chalk, tooth-powder, dolls from old cloth, sewing and knitting activities, artistic things by composing rope, coloured stones, feathers, blades of grass, sand etc., rangoli, bamboo work. These media can be used in teaching of mathematics, languages and environmental studies and would result in development of art and skills.

    5(3)   Social Service : Cleanliness of School, Home and Centres, decoration, celebration of national and social festivals.

    5(4)   Work Experience : Children become active, they would rejoice doing work and as a result, they stay in schools and thereby increase retentivity ultimately universalization would be possible.

    5(5)   Evaluation methods should be developed with the help of CMDE Curriculum Material Development and Evaluations.

    5(6)   All these activities will have to be done with low-cost or no-cost. Earning is also possible by exhibition and sale of good things.

 

District Resource Unit (DRU) for Adults / Non-formal Education (AE / NFE) :-

  1. Formal Education : School going children of 6 to 14 age-group.
  2. Non-formal Education : Out of school children of the age group 6 to 14.
  3. Adult Education : Illiterates of the age-group 15 to 35.

 

 FUNCTIONS OF THE BRANCH

o Planning and coordination of training programme for employees  of non-formal and adult education in the whole district.

o Training of motivators, workers and supervisors of non-formal and adult education and work of continuous education.

o Orientation Programme

o To undertake survey through field interaction for scheduled caste, scheduled tribe, backward class etc. women  and small communities and to know their needs and accordingly launch programme.

o TLM method and evaluation and development thereof.

o To look into relevance and quality of training imparted to employees of institutes. 

o Interactionship with other branches.

o Syllabus : Development of dialects spoken widely in the district and to prepare syllabus units, supplementary material, TLM corresponding to local need.

o Services of media.

o To provide information regarding non-formal and adult education to pre-service and in-service teachers and teacher-educators.

o To pay proper attention to non-formal education.

o Co-ordination of village education committees, adult education centres, non-formal education centres and district offices.

o Action research to be undertaken for problems of children going to non-formal education centres.

 

IN-SERVICE PROGRAMMES, FIELD-INTERACTION AND INNOVATION, CO-ORDINATION (IFIC) BRANCH :-

  1. Planning and coordination.
  2. Yearly calendar of all functions carried out by DIET.
  3. To prepare yearly calendar of in-service teacher education programmes outside DIET.

 

FUNCTIONS OF THE BRANCH

            o   Orientation programme of resource persons organizing teacher education programme outside DIET.

           o   Planning in-service teacher education programmes with the help of distance education media.

           o   Continuous observation and evaluation of quality, capacity and impact of different teacher’s

                 education programmes going on in DIET and outside DIET.

           o    Information regarding training of employees except those of non-formal and adult education and periodical

                 visits.

           o    Services as a reference and help centre for those teachers who want to continue education.

           o    Action research and field interaction.

 

CURRICULUM MATERIAL DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION (CMDE) BRANCH :-

 

Main Functions of the Branch

 

  1. Development of new teaching units according to the local environment.
  2. Development of material of Standard 1 and 2 for Aadivasi (Tribal) area.
  3. Technical help and guidance for continuous and comprehensive evaluation.
  4. To prepare evaluation tools, modules question bank and achievement test scheme.
  5. To help preparing material for District Research Unit, Non-Formal and Optional schools and adult-Education 

                Centres.

EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY (ET) BRANCH :-

 

FUNCTIONS OF THE BRANCH :-

  1. Creation and Development Material Supporting to the Syllabus

                  Effective and low-cost teaching aids like graphs, models, figures, photographs, slides, specimen, audio   

                  tape, drama writing, lectures, dialogues, songs, stories, correct spellings, correct sentences, oral arithmetic for

                  formal as well as non-formal and adult education.

  1. To maintain tools and teaching aids.

                 o        Audio-Visual aids.

                 o        Computer laboratory.

                 o        Low cost teaching aids – exhibitions.

                 o       Library of audio-visual cassettes.

  1. To give TLMs on loan and to use TLMs taken on loan.
  2. Management of educational radio broadcast. To prepare radio-script with the cooperation of C.M.D.E.
  3. Organization of in-service programmes.

                o     Educational broadcast, telecast, cassette library.

                o    Development of low cost teaching aids.

 

PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT (P&M) BRANCH :-

 Functions of the Branch

  1. Planning and Management : Programmes and Activities like pre-service teacher education, in-service education, non-formal education / adult education, field services action research etc. School mapping micro planning, school-complex and institutional planning may be included.
  1. Yearly Planning of DIETs : To prepare yearly three year and five year institutional planning of DIETs, self evaluation reports at the end of the year.
  1. Progress monitoring and maintenance of information bases : Universalization and retention of primary education, achievement of literacy targets, monitoring progress in implementation and maintenance of statistical information, supports.
  1. Policy Counselling to important fields : To undertake studies for imparting policy counseling to planners of primary / initial education, national literacy mission, administrators and education committees.
  • To impart advice through conclusions drawn on study of factory influencing enrolment, continuity, regularity, adults specifically women, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, minorities, disabled, slum areas and other deprived classes.
  • To examine the impact of such functions and advice accordingly.
  • To know view point of the community to find out areas.
  • Worms and technology development for schools, adult education centres, non-formal education centres.
  • To provide technical assistance in school mapping micro-planning, preparing universalizatin scheme, establishment of school-complexes, institutional planning and institutional evaluation.
  • To plan orientation programmes for principal-teachers of primary school, officers, leaders of BRCs and CRCs.
  • Following points should be included in it.
  • To prepare a scheme for leadership, motivation, participation of community, educational administration financial items, office procedure, universalization of primary education.
  • All the branches of the DIET should be informed about the above items.      
  • To evaluate universalization and National Literacy Mission Programme going on in the district.
